eJournal can bundle your notifications into one summary email per day or per week, instead of sending an email for each notification. This page explains when that email arrives, what is in it, and how to receive less email.
- Every notification is visible in eJournal right away, under the bell at the top of the screen.
- Per topic, you choose whether an email is sent as well, and when.
- The summary email arrives every day around 13:00, only when there is something new.
- Too much email? Change your settings under Profile → Notifications, or use the link at the bottom of any email.
On your profile, under the Notifications tab, you choose for each topic, such as New entries, New comments or Deadline reminders, whether you also receive an email:
- Notify immediately: a separate email for each notification.
- Daily summary: the notifications are collected in the daily summary email.
- Weekly summary: the notifications are collected in the summary email on Monday.
- In-app only: no email; the notification is only shown in eJournal.
- Disabled: no notification at all, not in eJournal either.
Deadline reminders have their own choices: when in advance you are reminded, or In-app only.
By default, each topic is set either to Notify immediately or to Weekly summary.
- Every day around 13:00, you receive one email with everything set to Daily summary.
- On Monday, the topics set to Weekly summary are added to that same email.
- If there is nothing new, no email is sent.
- The notifications are grouped per course (or programme) and per collection template.
- Notifications of the same kind about the same collection are combined into one, for example "5 new entries were posted in the collection of ...".
- A notification is emailed only once.
- Notifications older than two weeks are no longer included.
How long the email is depends on how much happens in your courses. For a teacher with many students or courses, it can be a long email.
You can change this yourself under Profile → Notifications, or through the Update your notification settings link at the bottom of every email:
- Set topics you do not need by email to In-app only. You still see them in eJournal, under the bell.
- Check that Receive notifications from is set to Own Groups. You then only receive notifications about students in your own groups. In a course without groups, you receive notifications about all students.
- Mute a course or collection template you no longer want notifications from, see How can I manage notifications?
- Stop all email from eJournal with the stop receiving emails link at the bottom of every email.
eJournal only sends email to a verified email address. If your address is not verified, a warning is shown under Profile → Notifications. Verify your address via the Details tab of your profile.
