Collection guidelines can give students something to hold on to when meeting certain expectations within their collection. For example, what the minimum requirements of the assessment plan are, or what is expected regarding feedback collection at various mandatory data points.
Collection guidelines are configured per collection template by ContentDevelopers. Once setup, they are visible at the top of the collection dashboard.
Whether guidelines are treated as hard requirements, or are more a matter of guidance and a lower limit, differs per programme. Ideally, this is clearly explained by the programme above the display of the guidelines.
Because collection guidelines can only look at quantity, an assessor will always be needed to evaluate the quality of the collection.
Broadly speaking, there are three types of collection guidelines:
Some simple examples are:
More complex rules are also possible:
Combining conditions like these - where feedback or entries must meet specific criteria and their activity assessment outcome must meet a minimum threshold - can result in complex cases. In such cases, we strongly advise always adding a collection guideline description to clarify the intent.
For rules affecting entries that have multiple versions, whether a guideline is considered passing is determined by a single principle:
A guideline only passes if it would pass for the latest published version of the entry - that is, the version shown by default when opening the entry.
Earlier versions are never evaluated on their own. This means the following cases will not count towards completing a guideline:
In both cases, because the latest version (v2) does not pass, the guideline does not pass either.
